First Responder Recertification in Calgary

Everyone in the room has done this before, and that is the premise the whole three days rests on. You are not being introduced to patient assessment. You are being watched doing it, corrected where it has drifted, and brought up to date where the standards have moved since you last sat the course. The hours are shorter because the starting point is higher, not because less is expected of you.

Everything is still assessed. A recertification that waved people through would be worth nothing to the employer reading the certificate, and the Canadian Red Cross sets what has to be demonstrated before one is issued. Coming in rusty is normal and is the reason to book. Coming in expecting a formality is not.

Your expiry date determines your eligibility. Recertification is available while your certificate is valid or within the permitted renewal window. Wait too long, and you may need to retake the full course at a higher cost and with twice the classroom time. Check your expiry date and book early.

If that date has already gone by some margin, tell us anyway rather than deciding for yourself. We would rather look at it with you than have you book the wrong course, and the answer is sometimes better than people expect.

The First Responder skill set, run as a renewal: patient assessment and history taking, airway and breathing management, oxygen and ventilation, bleeding control and shock, spinal motion considerations, and the scenario work that puts all of it together while a clock runs.

Basic Life Support is included and issues its own certificate on its own one year clock, sitting inside the three year First Responder certificate. That is two dates to track rather than one, and the shorter one is the one people forget.

Three days, nine to five, breaks included. It is a working schedule rather than a gentle one, which is what fitting a renewal into three days actually means.

The full First Responder course is 40 hours against this one's 20, and it costs more to sit. That arithmetic is the only reason this page keeps pointing you at your expiry date instead of at a booking button.

There is no penalty for asking too early. There is a real one for asking too late, and it is paid in both money and days off work.

What that certificate is worth to a particular employer, school or regulator is their decision rather than ours. If you are renewing because a specific body asked you to, send us the exact wording they gave you, unedited, and we will tell you honestly whether this is the course that answers it, including telling you when only they can settle it.
