Course Overview
Intermediate First Aid, formerly known as the Standard First Aid course, is a Canadian Red Cross first aid and CPR course for students who need more than basic first aid training.
This course is commonly used for workplace certification, school prerequisites, job applications, volunteer requirements, and students who want stronger emergency response skills before moving into higher-level responder training.
If you are mapping out that pathway, our guide to which first aid certification you actually need explains exactly what each fire department, PCP school, and employer requires before you register.
During the Canadian Red Cross naming transition, employers, schools, registration systems, certificates, and students may still use the name Standard First Aid. The updated course name is Intermediate First Aid.
In Alberta, this course is listed as Intermediate First Aid on the Alberta OHS approved first aid training agency list. It is the course level commonly required for many Alberta workplace first aid designations under the OHS Code.
