Eight hours putting the responder skill suite back under your hands, before the week where you have to perform it in front of an assessor.
Course details
- Certificate
- A Delta Emergency Support Training record of attendance. This is not a certification and it does not renew one.
- Certificate valid for
- Not a certification, so there is nothing to expire. Confirmed at registration.
- Issued by
- Delta Emergency Support Training
- Duration
- 1 day, 8 hours
- Format
- In person, Calgary
- Prerequisites
- None. It is built for people who already hold or have held First Responder, Advanced First Aid or EMR and want the skills back under their hands.
When this runs
This one is new and we are still setting dates and a fee for it. Tell us you are interested and we will come back to you with both, along with what the day covers, before you commit to anything.
What you’ll be able to do
- Run a full primary and secondary survey without prompting
- Manage an airway, ventilate, and deliver oxygen cleanly under time
- Control bleeding and manage a patient with suspected spinal injury
- Work a scenario end to end while someone is watching and scoring
Who this is for
People who have already been hired and have a recruit testing week coming. You did the certificate months or years ago, you have not run a full patient assessment since, and the part that worries you is not the knowledge but the hands.
It is also useful if you are returning to responder work after time away, or if you hold a current certificate and simply want a supervised day of practice without sitting another full course.
What the day covers
The responder skill suite as it is taught across First Responder, Advanced First Aid and EMR: scene assessment, primary and secondary survey, airway and breathing management, bleeding control, spinal considerations, and the scenario work that ties them together.
The emphasis is on doing rather than watching. You run the skills, you run them again, and you get corrected while you do, which is the difference between knowing a sequence and performing it under someone's eye.
What it is not
It is not a certification course and it does not renew a certificate. If your Red Cross certificate has lapsed or is about to, the course you want is a recertification, not this.
It is not run with, for, or on behalf of any fire service, and nobody at Delta has any part in anybody's recruit assessment. What we can do is give you a day of hard practice on the skills those assessments draw from. What happens in your testing week is between you and your employer.
Who this course is for
- Newly hired fire and EMS recruits with a testing week ahead
- Responders coming back after time away from the skills
- Anyone holding a current responder certificate who wants a supervised practice day
Where we teach this course
We teach this course in Calgary. No public dates are posted at the moment.
We also deliver this course at your worksite for groups, useful for crews who can’t release staff to travel. Onsite delivery carries an additional fee on top of per-person pricing. Request an onsite quote.
We travel for private and group training across Canada, and internationally by arrangement. If you’re outside Alberta, tell us where you are and we’ll price it.
Common questions
- Will this get me through my recruit testing?
- We cannot promise that and we will not. Your assessment belongs to your employer and Delta has no part in it. What this day gives you is repetition and correction on the skills those assessments are built from, which is the part most people say they wanted more of.
- Does this renew my certificate?
- No. It is not a certification course. If your certificate has lapsed or is close to it, you want a recertification instead, and we run those. Ask us and we will point you at the right one.
- Do I need a current certificate to come?
- No. The day is built for people who have held one, and having done the training before is what makes eight hours enough. If you have never done any of it, start with a full course instead.
