Course Overview
Intermediate First Aid with BLS is the combined program that delivers both a full Intermediate First Aid certification and a Basic Life Support certification in a structured training sequence.
Intermediate First Aid is the 2-day Canadian Red Cross first aid course (formerly Standard First Aid) that covers wound care, CPR, AED, breathing and circulation emergencies, injuries, and medical emergencies. BLS is the professional-level CPR course for healthcare providers and professional responders that adds high performance CPR, assisted ventilation, and team-based resuscitation skills.
This combination is often required for fire department applications, advanced industrial first aid attendant roles, and healthcare workers who need both a workplace first aid certification and a professional BLS credential
What Is Included
Intermediate First Aid (formerly Standard First Aid)
The full 2-day Intermediate First Aid course. Results in a 3-year Intermediate First Aid and CPR C/AED certificate. As of June 22, 2026, certificates use the updated name Intermediate First Aid in place of Standard First Aid.
Basic Life Support (BLS)
The professional-level CPR course covering high performance CPR, rapid assessment, rapid defibrillation, and assisted ventilation. Results in a 1-year BLS certificate. BLS must be renewed annually.

The course content, duration, and certification level are unchanged. Certificates issued on or after June 22, 2026 will read Intermediate First Aid and CPR C/AED (for the first aid component) and Basic Life Support (for the BLS component).
