Course Overview
Basic First Aid, formerly known as the Emergency First Aid course, is a Canadian Red Cross first aid and CPR course focused on essential emergency response skills.
This course is designed for people who need a shorter first aid course for workplace, home, volunteer, or general preparedness needs. It covers how to recognize emergencies, activate emergency medical services, provide basic first aid, perform CPR, use an AED, and respond to common life-threatening situations.
During the Canadian Red Cross naming transition, employers, schools, registration systems, certificates, and students may still use the name Emergency First Aid. The updated course name is Basic First Aid, effective June 22, 2026.
Basic First Aid may meet the first aid requirement for some Alberta workplaces. Requirements depend on employer policy, the nature of the work, workplace hazard assessment, and applicable OHS regulations. Confirm your requirement before registering.
