Basic First Aid Recertification renews a Canadian Red Cross Basic First Aid certificate with CPR-A, the course that used to be called Emergency First Aid. It is a half day in class instead of a full day. It is only for people whose certificate is still current: once the expiry date passes, the Red Cross does not allow a recertification and the full course is the way back.

Your certificate has to be current
Recertification is only open to people who hold a valid certificate that has not expired yet. That is the Canadian Red Cross rule, and the Government of Alberta says the same thing for workplace first aid: recertify before the expiry date, or take the full course after it.
Read the expiry date printed on your certificate and pick a class before it. Your certificate can be from Delta, from another Red Cross Training Partner, or from another national training agency the Red Cross recognizes. If it is not a Red Cross certificate, send it to us before you book and we will tell you whether it is accepted.
Which CPR level this renews
This recertification carries CPR-A, the same as our Basic First Aid course. The Red Cross also has a longer Basic First Aid recertification with CPR-C. If your certificate carries CPR-C, tell us before you book so we can put you on the right one.
It is taught in class only. The Red Cross no longer offers a blended version of this recertification.
What you leave with
A new Canadian Red Cross Basic First Aid certificate with CPR-A, valid for three years. Delta issues it as a Canadian Red Cross Training Partner. You still have to show every skill and pass the written test to receive it.

Our instructors teach in English, with live-translated classroom text available in supported languages. You can follow explanations on screen while participating in the same hands-on training as the rest of the class.
Because translated explanations require additional reading and processing time, your instructor may occasionally pause before moving to the next topic. This can make the instructional pace slightly slower.
Optional preparation materials may also be available before class to help you become familiar with common English first aid terminology.

We teach this course in Calgary and Leduc. No public dates are posted at the moment.
We also deliver this course at your worksite for groups, useful for crews who can’t release staff to travel. Onsite delivery carries an additional fee on top of per-person pricing. Request an onsite quote.

Common questions
- My certificate has already expired. Can I still recertify?
- No. The Canadian Red Cross only allows recertification before the certificate expires, and the Government of Alberta says the same for workplace first aid. After the expiry date the full Basic First Aid course is the way back.
- My certificate says Emergency First Aid. Is this the right course?
- Yes, if it carries CPR-A and has not expired. The Red Cross renamed Emergency First Aid to Basic First Aid.
- What counts as a baby, a child or an adult, and which ages does this course cover?
- This course carries CPR-A, which covers adults. The Canadian Red Cross 2025 standards set the age groups this way. A baby is under 1 year old. A child is 1 year old up to the onset of puberty. An adult is anyone from the onset of puberty on. Puberty does not happen on a set birthday, so you judge it on the person in front of you. A 13 year old who has started puberty gets adult CPR, and one who has not is still a child. For an AED, use child pads on a child up to the onset of puberty or under 55 pounds (about 25 kg), and baby pads on a baby if the AED has them. If baby pads are not there, use child or adult pads. If child pads are not there, use adult pads. The Red Cross says adult pads are safe on a child or a baby, so do not wait for the right size. If you are training for a specific person, tell us their age and we will tell you which course fits.
- Can I take this course if English isn't my first language?
