Oxygen Therapy (O2 Administration)

Target Group

• Dentists and dental teams preparing for medical emergencies in clinic

• Dental Hygienists launching a new practice or mobile hygiene business

• Oilfield, industrial, and standby personnel at high-risk worksites

• Lifeguards and aquatics staff responsible for drowning, hypoxia, and trauma response

• FR, AFA, EMR candidates bundling O2 with BLS or Airway Management

Prerequisites

• None.

Completion

• 100% attendance, successful skill demonstrations on equipment setup, device selection, titration, and documentation.

Course Content

• Oxygen cylinders, regulators, gauges, and safety checks

• Indications, contraindications, and target SpO₂ ranges by patient profile

• Delivery devices: nasal cannula, simple mask, non-rebreather, pocket mask with O₂ inlet

• Ventilation support: BVM assembly, two-rescuer seal, flow and FiO₂ considerations

• Switching tanks, flow calculations, leak troubleshooting, and safe transport

• Charting essentials and handover language for clinics, pools, and worksites

• Optional integration with Airway Management (OPA/NPA, suction) and BLS high-performance CPR

• Skills sheets, device quick-reference, and completion record.

Certification

• Canadian Red Cross Oxygen Therapy

• When taken with BLS, O2 may be listed on the combined credential depending on bundle configuration.

• When integrated with a responder course, appears on the associated certificate as applicable.

Approximate Course Length

• 1-2 hours skills lab (single session).

Traditional/Blended/Online/Hybrid

• Traditional, instructor-led skills workshop. Pre-reads supplied.

Additional Information: Base locations: Calgary and Leduc. Mobile delivery anywhere in Canada. Private instructor travel available at extra cost. Pair with BLS and Airway Management for dental clinic readiness, lifeguard requalification packages, or oilfield standby competencies.
