Responder Skills Refresher

The Responder Skills Refresher is a non-certification skills and scenario course designed for candidates who already hold AFA or EMR and want to sharpen performance to employer and fire department expectations.

This course follows Canadian Red Cross skill frameworks while adding the assessment standards, scenario structure, and pressure used in real hiring processes. It is not a certification and does not replace any Red Cross program. It exists to make you sharper, faster, and more confident when it counts.

Delta Emergency Support Training is based in Calgary and Leduc, with regular delivery for candidates preparing for Calgary Fire, Edmonton Fire, and other Alberta departments.

Who It’s For

  • Former Delta Emergency AFA or EMR students

  • Firefighter applicants preparing for recruit testing

  • AFA and EMR holders who want performance-based retraining

  • Responders returning after time away from active skills use

Prerequisites

  • Previously completed First Responder, Advanced First Aid, or EMR

  • This is not an entry-level course

What You Work On

  • Patient assessments to hiring-test standards

  • Medical and trauma scenarios run the way departments evaluate them

  • Airway, oxygen, BVM, and bleeding control under time pressure

  • Scene control, communication, and decision-making

  • Equipment familiarity and efficiency

  • Oral questioning and scenario debriefing similar to recruit exams

Completion

Full participation in all skills stations and scenarios.
This course is evaluative and instructional, not pass/fail.

Certification

None.
This course does not issue a certificate and is not affiliated with Red Cross certification. Skills taught align with Red Cross frameworks and employer expectations.
